Built in the late 1890s, this three storeyed red brick and plaster building forms a gateway to Little Bourke Street with the Exford Hotel opposite. The building addresses the corner site with a splayed corner flanked by double pilasters. The building uses relatively simple decorative devices to produce a lively effect with repetitive segmental arches on the first floor and round headed arches on the second floor topped by triangular pediments. It is of local stringybark timber, with uprights of split logs and hand-cut pailings slipped down horizontally into grooves of the upright supports. The roof is of galvanized iron.
