Statement of Significance

The Chinese have occupied this site since 1862. The present buildings were erected in 1883 in face brickwork with rendered cornices. The use of arched openings on the ground floor and the irregular size and placement of openings is unusual. The retention of these simple shops and former dewllings is essential to the character of Chinatown.
