Church Statement of Significance: One of Melbourne's earliest bluestone churches, of which the four bay nave of 1850-1 was designed by Newson & Blackburn. Other work, since largely reversed, was by Charles Webb in 1855-6, and Nathaniel Billing was responsible for the north aisle of 1863-4 and the south aisle and chancel between 1868 and 1876. Believed taken to Tasmania from Scotland as part of the cargo of the 'Thistle' and later brought from Launceston to Portland, again by the 'Thistle'. Church A bluestone church in a severe Early English style, begun in 1855 and consecrated in 1868, designed by George Hawer Hathewson, with the later addition of chapel, organ chamber and narthex.
