Rosehill Homestead

Peter Cunningham was the builder and no architect has been identified as designer of this classically derived cement rendered facade of three bay composition, central carriageway and surmounting ornamented pediment. This is an elegant and large series of warehouses associated with wool sales from the 1870s till the First World War. A three manual Wurlitzer Hope-Jones Unit Orchestra of 15 extended ranks built by the Wurlitzer Company, of Tonawanda, New York for the Capitol Theatre, Melbourne when it opened in 1924. Here it was associated with the accompaniment of films and stage presentations by the resident organist Horace Weber and the broadcasts of Stanfield Holliday.
