Linda Crescent,, HAWTHORN VIC 3122 - Property No B6353

The Glenferrie Sports Ground Grandstand is of State significance. Designed by Stuart P Calder in association with Marsh and Michaelson in 1938, it is a perfect vehicle for the inherently sculptural qualities of the Moderne style because it is visible from all sides, prominent in the streetscape and boldly takes advantage of its curved plan. It is the only known grandstand to adopt the Moderne style, incorporating characteristic facets such as round windows, glass bricks, daring ... more

Built 1888, at the high point of the boom, the Fitzroy Grandstand is one of only three surviving grandstands that predate the great depression of the 1890s. Balaclava Road,, BEECHWORTH VIC 3747 - Property No B4352

Beechworth's Baarmutha Park Grandstand was built in 1897, for the Shire Council. As with many a town, this grandstand is at a site long reserved for local sporting and celebratory events. Vested in the council by the government, the site was leased to the Beechworth race committee in 1858, on condition that the committee would clear and fence the area and make it available for other sports. Here the All England Eleven cricket team challenged and defeated the Ovens Twenty-Two ... more
