Statement of Significance

Built in 1901 to the design of J R Richardson, the City Surveyor, the Bendigo Grandstand is a typical late nineteenth century grandstand but in this case with four entry stairs leading from the oval to the tiered seating above. On the same grand scale as City Oval, Ballarat, the Bendigo Grandstand presents a more unified concept. The solid brick base is penetrated by only a few deliberately placed openings. The hipped roof adorned with four gables of pagoda profile is supported on slender cast iron columns.
These columns and the balustrading were cast by the local City Foundry of Dunn and Rospach.
