Former St Stephens Anglican Church

22-24 Merton Street,, IVANHOE VIC 3079 - Property No B6057

One of the best churches by the prolific architect Louis Williams designed in his version of the Arts and Crafts style and built in 1926-7, with a vestry added in 1929. The sheer brick surfaces inside and out, abstract masses, depressed arches, banks of separate window lights and the west end, broad brick aisle arcade and simplified hammerbeam roof principals, are characteristic of a style which had appeared in Victoria three decades earlier. This style is handled deftly by Williams ... more

Holy Innocents Anglican Church

Church Road,, WOORINEN VIC 3589 - Property No B6327

Holy Innocents Church, constructed in 1927-8 displays a strong Arts & Craft flavour through its consciously simple composition which relies on the natural textures of panelled upper sections over a weatherboarded base. It is architecturally significant at a State level because this simplicity is underlined by the use of traditional and generally low cost materials which nevertheless achieve a sophisticated and highly successful visual effect. Particularly notable is the unusual ... more

Organ - Holy Trinity Anglican Church

Clarendon Street,, EAST MELBOURNE VIC 3002 - Property No B6155

The pipe organ at Holy Trinity Church is a rare example of an instrument constructed by an amateur organbuilder for domestic use in late 19th century Melbourne. Walker. The windchests and mechanisms have been ... more

A church of which the original bluestone portion, dating from 1856-7, is quintessentially Webbian.
