The Queen's Warehouse was erected in 1890 for H.M. Customs. It is two storey, of brick with cast iron internal columns, in the American Romanesque Style and was designed by the Public Works Department. It is one of the first buildings to be carried out in this distinctive style and is believed to be the individual work of A. J. McDonald , also architect for the similarly styled Omeo Post Office. Prior to that it contained the Centennial Coffee Palace. The warehouse was designed by architect Robert Sloan and continued the tradition of large warehouse associated with agricultural machinery established in the western end of Bourke Street in the 1870s.
