Henty Cottage

Henty cottage came originally from the rear of' Offington' 499 St Kilda Road, Melbourne. It was moved to Brighton in August 1971 and to Olinda in 1972. Believed to have been imported, partly built, from England. The cottage was extensively damaged by fire on 09/12/2004. Only a portion of the exterior fabric remains. Believed taken to Tasmania from Scotland as part of the cargo of the 'Thistle' and later brought from Launceston to Portland, again by the 'Thistle'. On 6 December 1834 it was used to turn the first sod in Victoria in the vicinity of Bentinck Street, between Julia and Henty Streets. On display, History House, Portland.
