Beechworth Forests Offices were erected to designs of the Public Works Department. They originally comprised public offices for the Chinese Protector and the Warden of the Goldfields. The Chinese Protector's Office dates from 1858. It is a simple stone structure with a hipped roof and a verandah to the street facade. The Warden's Office was erected 1859-60. Group Statement of Significance: A distinguished group of three small civic buildings, now abandoned, consisting of Court House, Shire Offices and Post Office, built between 1864 and 1880. The District Survey Office was erected in 1858 and served as the Electric Telegraph Station. Early illustrations show it as a single storey stone building, set back from the street in line with its neighbours. The double fronted facade had a central entrance expressed by a tiny two storey tower.
