The foundation stone of the viaduct was laid on October 25th, 1858 and the last stone was laid on 8th September, 1862. The completion ceremony on 27th September, 1862 was attended by the Chief Secretary, Attorney General, Minister of Justice and Railway Commissioners and members of the Legislative Council.
