A large single-storey building decorated in polychromatic brick work. Constructed in 1889 as the engine house for the Port Melbourne and South Melbourne cable tram systems and subsequently redeveloped for other purposes. The building is one of the better preserved of the seven surviving separate engine houses in Melbourne, the largest surviving artefact associated with the cable system in this part of the city. The first shed was built in 1932, the second in 1935, by Norman Pope and his son Leslie. Excavation was by pick and shovel, with ground dimensions c.9 feet at the facades and 27 feet in depth, into the hillside, the roofs at the rear matching the ground level of the hill-top. The Woolshed at Mount William Homestead is a large bluestonebuilding erected for pastoralist brothers Thomas and Andrew Chirnside in 1865. Constructed in coursed masonry, the structure has a large, flat, hipped slate roof. There is a pyramid roofed, weatherboard tower and weatherboard extensions.
