A large mansion erected c.1890 for financier J W Kennedy, believed to have been designed by J Smith. A two-storey arcade of corinthian columns faces the structure and returns. There are corinthian on tuscan pilasters at the corners and a single-storey pedimented porch on corinthian columns. Festoons, cornices, balustrades and parapets are features. The property was originally settled as a sheep run in the 1840's. The property passed into the hands of the Gibson brothers and their brother-in-law, Fredrick Fenton in 1848. Gold was discovered on the property in 1851, by which time Fredrick Fenton had become the sole owner. This was the first discovery of gold in the Bendigo District.
