Mewburn Park was taken up by Lachlan Macalister and Dr, Arbuckle in 1840. Captain Johnson-Boe (a pioneer pastoralist and later parliamentary representative for North Gippsland) acquired the run soon afterwards and erected the original U-plan single storey brick homestead with wide timber verandahs and shingle roof in the 1940's in a typical Colonial venacular tradition.
