Beginning as a subdivision by the Southern Terminating Building Society, in 1891, the site of Nocklofty became Kenneth Munro's property in 1905.
Work commenced on the house in January of 1906, soon after Munro's retirement as an Engineer, but at the beginning of his career as a skilled woodcarver. Apprenticed to Mr Dunne, Munro developed his art, in the workshops constructed adjacent to Nocklofty stables, carving its richly decorative elements.
