Mentone was erected in1885 for Michael Morgan. The two storey brick structure has a two storey cast iron verandah. The rendered cornice and parapet include a pedimented name plate. Prominently located on a wedge-shaped site and of a most unusual design, this hotel anticipates the Free Style designs of the Edwardian era. It was erected in 1887-8 to the design of C D Figgis of Loweish Moorhouse and Figgis, and is one of the oldest buildings in Mentone, having been commissioned by the areas land boom developers prior to any major subdivisional sales.
