Statement of Significance

Prominently located on a wedge-shaped site and of a most unusual design, this hotel anticipates the Free Style designs of the Edwardian era. It was erected in 1887-8 to the design of C D Figgis of Loweish Moorhouse and Figgis, and is one of the oldest buildings in Mentone, having been commissioned by the areas land boom developers prior to any major subdivisional sales. Some notable fragments of the interior remain, particularly the stair hall.
