The Camperdown Turf Club Grandstand was built in 1902-03 to the design of local architect Michael McCabe at a time of growing interest in the sport, and growth in the town. It replaced an earlier smaller grandstand and seated about 800 people. The North Melbourne Football Club was established in 1869 and became associated with the Hotham Cricket Ground (now North Melbourne Recreation Reserve) by 1882. The building has an arched roof supported by iron columns with elegant cast iron brackets. Crowning the roof are three squat lanterns with concave roofs supporting flagpoles. Built in 1901 to the design of J R Richardson, the City Surveyor, the Bendigo Grandstand is a typical late nineteenth century grandstand but in this case with four entry stairs leading from the oval to the tiered seating above.
