Court House - Chiltern

Designed by H.A. Williams of the Public Works Department, the building was erected in 1865. The contractor was Mr. Stevens. The single storey brick structure comprises a single gabled court room with flanking offices to the rear. The centrally located public entrance is expressed by a brick porch with a segmental arch entrance. The window openings are also composed of segmental arches. Federal Standard Newspaper Office

The Federal Standard was established in 1859 by G Mott, F Ashworth and G Boyer and ceased publication in 1969. The surviving single storey brick printing office dates from the early 1860s. It has a simple hipped roof and the walls are punctuated with brick piers. Several newspapers were published here during the nineteenth century and distributed throughout the area.
