The goldmining town of Chiltern is bordered to the north and south by the most easterly occurrence of the Yellow Gum, Grey Box, and Ironbark forests in Victoria. The forests are historically associated with the town and contribute to its character.

A range of granite hills covered in native flora with a spectacular viewpoint at Mt Pilot, which is important for Aboriginal people. This area is particularly important for recreation.
