Small slate-roofed brick cottage c. 1851, with iron-roofed weatherboard front section of slightly later date with delicate cast-iron verandah valance and ornamental timber bargeboards; more recent timber additions at rear obscure the earliest section. Overseer's Cottage, Gorrinn Station, 9 miles south-south east, Ararat, is a single storied bluestone residence comprising part of the homestead complex of Gorrinn Station built for James and Robert Richardson. This structure dates from the 1850s or 1860s and is symmetrical with a hipped iron roof and eaves cornice with dentils. The two small stone cottages on 'Timber Hills' Homestead, the origins of which are not confirmed, but possibly constructed by a German, Grosse, in 1853, are derived from English or European vernacular construction practice.
