The three shops were erected pre 1848. The two storey brick structure originally served as shops and residences although during the 1850's each of the buildings was used as a boarding house. The rear additions also date from a later period. They are among the few remaining buildings in the Central Business District dating from the 1840's. Designed by George Jobbins and built in 1876/77 for R S Harris, fruiterer and simply detailed in similar style to the adjacent numbers 69, 71 & 73. The two shops were altered in 1889 by J Macleod.
