Statement of Significance

The olive tree is of local significance due to its historical associations with an important local industry of winemaking, and with the prominent Lilydale landowner, John Hutchinson. The olive tree is a rare surviving example of the plantings associated with vineyards, which were once common around Lilydale in the mid to late nineteenth century.
