Ellis Stones - is an excellent example of their work. (Tansley, 1978)

Folly Farm is important as an example of the style of the renowned

garden designer, Edna Walling, exhibiting the following characteristics

of her style: a natural planting style with mixed shrub and tree groups;

subdued use of coloured flowers; spaces defined by curved beds of mass

shrub planting; subtle use of plant textures and form to create

aesthetic effects; and, use of natural stone for paving and walls with

absence of man made modern elements (Criterion D.2). The Garden is

important for exhibiting artistic excellence by the following: the

reliance on leaf and trunk colour and texture and plant form for

distinctive scenery composition; the contribution of the natural design

with curving lines, flowing lawns and scalloped shrubberies to the

garden aesthetic; and, the linking between the driveway, the main garden

and the Parkland (Criterion F.1). The Garden is important for exhibiting
