Statement of Significance

The site of Blake's Mill, Powelltown, is of local significance. Although the site has few surviving features, it is significant as the site of the earliest sawmill in the Little Yarra Valley and for its role in the formation of Powelltown. (Supple 1991)

Description

The mill site is located just to the east of Powelltown. It is a heavily grassed, slightly sloping open block with a few trees. The surviving evidence of the mill is a clear tramway formation with some buried timber edging and a deep cutting running along the low side of the block. No evidence of a sawdust heap, recorded by Dept. Conservation, Forests and Lands in 1975 remained in 1989. (Supple 1991)
