| Details |
The schooner Nautilus was wrecked on the beach near Cape Liptrap. Strong winds blew the vessel off course and left it high and dry on the beach. Four of the crew walked overland to Port Albert, leaving the master and a female passenger at the wreck. The men were received with suspicion due to the fact that convicts were known to escape by boat from Van Diemens Land. After they produced a letter from the master to his agent in Melbourne, help was sent.
