Details |
The Lorna was out on a fishing voyage when heavy seas split the boat in two. Wayth supported Higginbotham in water. They drifted out in strong tide, were picked up by a vessel with engine trouble which was waiting for tide change; sailed to outside pilot vessel Akuna, which brought wreck victims home. The starboard side of the vessel was salvaged to build a new boat for Point Lonsdale resident, and a collection was taken up to purchase a new boat for Higginbotham. (Frank Ferrier, pers com)
