The ADA BURGESS was built for the Bass Strait fishery by E.A.Jack for the Burgess family. Other vessels in the Burgess fleet included MYRTLE BURGESS, JULIA BURGESS, MARY BURGESS and the JANE MOORHEAD. Vessel was outward bound from Stony Point to Flinders when it encountered a severe westerly gale which carried away the mainmast. Attempts to sail the vessel under the mizzen sail failed and the ADA BURGESS was beached a mile and a half south of the Tarwin Meadows estate to the west of Cape Liptrap The master and crew reached shore safely. According to The Age, the vessel went ashore near Mr G.M. Blacks (Tarwin Meadows) Homestead, close to the MAGNAT site.
In August 1912 the Ada Burgess picked up the 21 crew from the wreck of the ship G.W. Wolfe which was wrecked on Prime Seal Island in the Furneaux Group, Bass Strait. (Loney, Aust. Shipwecks, Vol 4., p.71).
