In August 1949, Mr. RT Breen ordered an 'ornamental war memorial window' from Brooks, Robinson & Co., Melbourne, on behalf of the Methodist Church. Few details were noted in the stained glass department job books, except that thiswas a 'new design' made in sections to slot into an iron frame.
Signalman Alwyn John Breen was a member of the Australian Navel Volunteer Reserve before he enlisted in the Royal Australian Navy in September 1939. He was one of three men killed when HMAS Swan was attacked by Japanese aircraft in Darwin Harbour on 19 February 1942. He was 30 years of age. His death is recorded on the Plymouth Naval Memorial, UK.
