[Plaque] Gift of Mr. and Mrs. A.F. Ware and family in memory of their son and brother Robert Edward Ware, one time choir boy here, killed in action at El Alamein, Egypt, on 10th July 1942 aged 20 years and 6 months.
Description & History
The window was dedicated on 30 December 1950 by Canon PW Robinson after an unveiling by Robert Ware's immediate commander in the 2/12 Australian Field Regiment, Captain John E McKeddie, MC and Bar.Another two-light window in the nave, St. Matthew and Elizabeth Fry were erected in recognition of Robert Ware's parents who were active in the fledgling parish from 1919.
Robert Edward Ware, son of Arthur and Emilie Ware of Camberwell, was born on 31 December 1921 at Surrey Hills. He enlisted at Caulfield and joined the 2/12 Field Regiment which took part in the defence of Tobruk. Lance Bombadier Ware died of wounds in Egypt on 10 July 1942 and was buried in the El Alamein War Cemetery, Egypt.
