Description & History

The three windows above the altar in the east end of the church were unfilled with stained glass when the church opened on 29 November 1957. The architect, Louis R Williams, had recommended David Taylor Kellock (1913-1988) to design a series of windows for the new building and he was once again commissioned to fill the chancel openings.

William John Davies was born on 13 April 1923 in Melbourne, younger son of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Davies of Ranfurlie Crescent, Glen Iris, who was in Queensland when he 'enlisted in the field'. 'Jack' became Sapper Davies and was with 12 Water Transport Company RAE (Small Craft) when he died on 23 October 1943, aged 19, from injuries received during operations in New Guinea. He is remembered at the Port Moresby (Bomana) War Cemetery, Papua New Guinea. His brother Howell served in the Royal Australian Navy.
