Description & History

The window to Private R.S. Hovenden was unveiled on Sunday August 25 1946.

Ronald Selwyn Hovenden was born at Mossel Bay, South Africa on 25 March 1912. His family emigrated to Australia where another son, John Bernard was born on 14 October 1918. Both sons joined the 2/2 Pioneer Battalion and were taken prisoner in Java. Private Ronald Hovenden, died of illness in a POW camp in Siam (Thailand) on 25 August 1943. Sgt. John Hovenden survived the Burma Railway, distinguishing himself as a non-commissioned officer. He returned to Australia and was discharged on 12 December 1945.
