Presented by his loved ones To the Glory of God. In memory of Thomas Danks G. Trueman a Son of this Sanctuary Minister of the Methodist Church killed in action at Dranoutre 22nd March 1918.

Description & History

This image of a kneeling knight, posed with his right arm raised, was symbolic of the faithful knight in God's army, and also a portrait of the Reverend TG Danks Trueman. The window is a striking example of the use of silver stain to create the strong golden armour of the knight. The window was unveiled by the Reverend AP Bladen on Sunday 23 September 1928.

The Reverend Thomas George Danks Trueman served with the YMCA, attached to the 5th Battalion Australian Infantry. He was the only son of Clara and (the late) Thomas Trueman of Te Whare Milton Street, Canterbury. He was killed in action by shellfire at Dranoutre, Belgium on 22 March 1918, aged 30. A photograph in the Australian War Memorial files shows his grave marker alongside that of Gunner Walter George Smith, 12th Field Artillery Brigade, a Methodist Missionary from Beechworth.
