To the Glory of God and in sacred memory of our beloved husband and father, John Hill Trevena, who entered into rest February 9th 1938 and Arthur Reginald Trevena A.I.F. died of wounds in France July 8th 1916. A devoted son and brother.

Description & History

Mrs. Trevena ordered the window from Brooks, Robinson & Co. on the first anniversary of her husband's death, 9 February 1939.

Arthur Reginald Trevena was a letter carrier when he enlisted on 1 May 1915, aged 26, having been granted leave without pay from the Postmaster General's Department. Shortly after his arrival in Egypt in early January 1916 as part of the reinforcements for 5 Battalion, he contracted mumps and was, along with many others, admitted to hospital in Cairo. In May he proceeded to Marsailles, now with 46 Battalion, but not before a bout of scabies and a flare up of an 'old injury' in his right leg took him back to hospital on separate occasions. In action on 8 July, he was wounded in his abdomen and right elbow and transferred to No. 1 Canadian Clearing Station. His condition was reported as 'dangerously ill' and he died shortly after midday. He was buried at Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension (Nord), in France.
