The figure of St. Alban holds a banner bearing his name his right hand. The face is a portrait of William Woodcock, painted on glass, probably by glass painter David Gibson, one of the partners in the stained glass firm, Mathieson & Gibson.
Lance Corporal Frederick William Woodcock enlisted on 7 October 1941 and was attached to the 2/29 Battalion of the AIF, the last battalion to be raised for that conflict. The battalion suffered enormous casualties in the Bakri battle and Woodcock was possibly one of the reinforcements that arrived to assist in the defence of Singapore. All 2/29th survivors of that unsuccessful campaign were taken prisoner and although Woodcock is not recorded as a POW his Roll of Honour entry lists his death on the 27 June 1943 in Siam from illness. The memorial window gives the place of death as Burma.
