Methodist Church Honour Roll 1914-1918
Description & History
In 1921, the Reverend Alexander McCallum opened the soldiers' memorial porch and unveiled a window containing the names of those soldiers who were members of the church. The two-light window was a simple leadlight design in plain glass with the names of the men inscribed on two scrolls, with a central piece at the head of window containing an emblem of the crossed flags of Britain and Australia at either side of the cross and crown.
On the same occasion, Mr. McCallum unveiled a tablet commemorating the six men who died in defence of their country. It appears that the original window was damaged and a new window made and installed in the Wangaratta Uniting Church. The names of the men whose names were inscribed in the window were: D. Barnes, D. Carmichael, C.A. Chick+, H. Chick, E. Clutterbuck, A. Coates, C. Dunkley, C. Edwards+, W.P. Edwards, G. Heaton, F. Hunt, H. Hunt, P.Jones, T. Mason+, W. McGregor, A.J. McLaughlin, A. Richards, G. Richardson+, J.A. Sanders. A.O. Schroeder, L. Siseley, L. Taylor, R.E. Williams+.
