A series of six windows was unveiled in the Hamilton Baptist Church in August 1933, all of which were installed to commemorate men who died in the Great War, one of whom was Edgar Stevenson.
Edgar Richmond Stevenson was a 21 year-old baker when he applied to enlist on 10 May 1916 at Hamilton. His parents, William and Euphemia Stevenson, operated the Glencoe Bakery in Hamilton, and it seems likely that he worked in the business.
In October 1916 he sailed from Melbourne aboard HMAT Shropshire, first to England for further training, then into France in December where he joined 39 Battalion in which his brother also served. He served with the unit until he was killed in action on 4 October 1917. He is remembered at Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
