Description & History

A series of six windows was unveiled in the Hamilton Baptist Church in August 1933, all of which were installed to commemorate men who died in the Great War. One was in memory of Mr. James Sack, a Lance Corporal in 8 Battalion at the time of his death.

James Sack was born at Warracknabeal and a 23-year old watchmaker when he enlisted in Melbourne on 8 July 1915. As part of reinforcements to 8 Battalion he arrived in Alexandria in January 1916, too late for the Gallipoli campaign, and was dispatched for France in March. He was appointed Lance Corporal only two months prior to being killed in action on 9 November 1916. He was buried at Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.

Image is representative of all six commemorative windows.
