The former State Theatre (opened in Febuary 1929) was the largest and most exotic cinema in Australia. A church buit in 1928 to the design of Haddon & Henderson, and combining Haddonian touches, like the wrought iron lamp cantilever at the entrance and the blindoculus suspended from the parapet, with an overall mannered and clumsy form. The corner tower is a squat octagon with a crenellated top and a risible etiolated spire, and the west window is capped by a strange projecting rectangle in cement. Classified State: 24/08/1989

St. John's Church is a four bay, bluestone church with spire capped tower, built in 1874-5, possibly to the designs of H S Saville. Walls are constructed in random-coursed bluestone with lighter coloured stone dressings and a slate roof. A Presbyterian church of 1885-6 by the Bairnsdale architect A F Kraemer on a quasi-auditorium plan with a broad polygonal transept-like termination and a complex roof of strutted rafters and scissor trusses, carried from strange clusters of foliated corbels; all in thin construction and now regrettably in a parlous structural state, as well as being seriously defaced by additions to the main front. Building was commenced in 1864 and by 1877 contained eleven rooms including a ballroom. Construction is of brick, now rendered and painted, with a slate roof. Lintels to two doorways are decorated with effigies of St Patrick. The house is known as St Patrick's house and follows the use of the name St Patrick's Cottage given to the original building. St Paul's Cathedral, Bendigo was built in stages. The nave was built in 1868, the tower in 1872-73 and the transepts and sanctuary in 1926-27.
