The complex of former Police buildings at Chiltern was erected in 1873 by the Public Works Department and consist of police quarters, stables and a lock-up. The buildings were designed by H A Williams who was at that time the Clerk of Works in charge of north-eastern Victoria. Former Mcconnells' Stables - Warrnambool Historic Area

This sandstone building was designed about 1886 by George Jobbins as stables for the owner William Cust and was occupied by John Latta. Known as McConnell's stables since about 1918 when Joseph McConnell was the livery stable keeper.
