The Narmbool Run was taken up by a Mr. Neville who had been travelling with a party headed by HamiltonHume travelling from Portland to Ballarat. He built the original 2 room bluestone cottage. Subsequent owners added more rooms surrounding a central courtyard. Some of these rooms were built of stone rubble which later had to be demolished. It is known that 2 large bluestone rooms were added by Mr. Albert Arthur in 1888. The house was sold by Mr Arthur in 1922 to Mr. W. Phillips,
