Del Marie Flats

4 St. Leonard's Avenue,, ST KILDA VIC 3182 - Property No B6733

The Del Marie flats, designed by Stuart Hall and erected in 1937, are significant at a regional level for their particularly expressive use of the Streamlined Moderne. While other flats expressed modernist principles more directly, Del Marie, with its curved corners, and bold horizontal massing of solids and voids, contrasted against a vertical stair-tower, is one of the best examples of what could be called the Moderne style amongst residential flats.
