Melbourne's oldest known hotel, licenced in 1843, and oldest known shop, both completed to substantially the present form before 1848 and retaining such early features as the shingle roof, wrought iron gutter brackets and original hotel sign on the side wall: in particular the typical corner hotel doorway flanked by large bar windows under timber bressummers well typifies this almost extinct building form. The Victorian Italianate style homestead Devon Park, originally known as the pastoral run, Linlithgow Plains, was erected in two stages - firstly as a single storey bluestone residence, with substantial two storey additions of rockfaced square coursed basalt in 1882/83.
