Strathavon Homestead

The pastoral run, 'Strathavon' at Nuntin near Maffra was selected by Scottish immigrant. John McMillan, soon after his arrival in Gippsland in 1857. McMillan erected the single storey attic house of locally fired bricks in 1858/59, with a plain timber verandah encircling the four room house. The architect was Walter Buckhurst,the owner's son. The two storey brick mansion has the typical Italianate massing with projecting canted bay wing, tower and two storey cast iron verandah.
