Statement of Significance

Horticultural value
Contribution to landscape
Particularly old
Outstanding size
Outstanding example of the species

This Cupressus lusitanica is significant due to its estimated age, physical size and current health and structural condition. Mature cultivated trees of this species are few in Victoria making this tree significant for its cultivation rarity in Victoria. It may therefore be of interest in terms of propagating material (seed or scion wood) for future propagation needs in historical gardens across the state as conifers such as those from the Cupressaceae were common components of gardens during the late 1880's and early 1900's.
The tree also contributes strongly to the surrounding landscape due to its size and the lack of other trees within the cemetery.
