Statement of Significance

Old and venerable
Outstanding size

This tree is one of the largest on record in East Gippsland and possibly Victoria. It has a broader girth than the Ada tree (Eucalyptus regnans) near Powelltown, the largest known of the flowering trees in Victoria.
This specimen is a significant native old growth tree located in a logging area in the Bonang River Catchment. It is part of a grove of about 3-4 hectares of very large trees and may be associated with a soak. The Department of Sustainablity and Environment (DSE) has advised that this area will be protected and excluded from logging.
Logging and unsupervised post-logging burnoffs of surrounding vegetation increase fire risk in the area, and are a threat to this tree.
The tree is located approximately 2-2.5km south-south-east of Gap Road where Result Creek goes under Gap Road, in the Bonang River Catchment
