Horticultural value
One of several cuttings given to the Royal Botanic Gardens by Miss Myrtle Elvins from a chance hybrid which first appeared as a seedling in the Elvins' garden in Linda Crescent, Hawthorn, in 1926. The tree is believed to be a cross between Prunus cerasifera, Cherry Plum, and Prunus salicina, Japanese Plum. It is most attractive in Spring as it flowers prolifically.
The hybrid was brought into the nursery trade by Mr R. Sparks of Sparks and McAlpine's Nursery, Box Hill, in the 1950s. It is now widespread through Melbourne.
