Statement of Significance

Historic town

A species commonly planted during the 1860s and 1870s. This tree is a fine example and has grown surprisingly well The envirnoment is considerably different from the mountain forests of the Sierra Nevada Range in California .
May 2009 The tree has been in decline over the past 5 years and in Nov 2007 the fungus Botryosphaeria was detected. The extreme dry and hot conditions over the past 10-12 years has severely stressed the tree and is is now dead
