Statement of Significance

Contribution to landscape

The tree was moved from its original site in a paddock off Power Street, opposite Weinberg Road, in 1910, on a jinker. According to a report in "The Argus"on May 18, 1910, 5 horses and 14 men were required to lift it. The tree became caught in the overhead telephone wires even though many of its branches had been lopped; it was presumably a mature tree at that time. It is now a fine widespreading specimen, bearing fruit prolifically.
It is now located in a reserve on Riversdale Road, opposite Power Street.
