Contribution to landscape These trees are the only known examples in cultivation in Victoria. Unfortunately both trees have been overcrowded and have not developed an attractive form. Jan 2013. Main tree has been removed. The Gardens are encouraginga number of saplings to grow from the original tree. In Jan 2013 the saplings were approx. 2 mtrs high.
Rare or localised:
A feature of the tree is the very large double-pinnate leaves, some up to 75cm long. Male and female trees. An oblong pod (8.3cm) is produced and the seeds have been used as a coffee substitute. Native to eastern USA.
